The power of music

After sharing her insights on the power of words , Emma (18) also created a list of songs that can help us smile even in difficult times

Now I know that literature isn’t for everyone and it can sometimes be struggle to sit down and really read these things but I have the answer, music!

Lyrics, otherwise known as poems to music can be these amazing, beautiful things that help the world make sense. I’ve always loved lyrics, whether they’re the ones I sing along to at the top of my lungs or the ones that hold real meaning. Many people find huge reassurance in music and because it spans such a wide variety there can be something for everyone. For me it’s in songs like Therapy and Missing You by All Time Low but it’s about finding does something for you, it doesn’t matter if it’s One Direction or a piece of classical music. Just like reading a book, it has the power to take you away, for you to get lost in without effort. You can just put on your headphones and enter a world that’s entirely your own.

I’ve always thought music had this magic about it but it was only when I got to know my best friend that I really saw it’s magic at work. I saw how music picked her up on a bad day, how whenever she feels stressed we just sit and listen together, no need to talk - the songs are doing that for us. Music is in an incredible power, use it for good.

I wish I could say that these things are a magic cure, that these things could make everything okay but I can’t. What I can say instead is these things can help, they can be a smile on a bad day, a hug in a moment of need and a safe place to go when the world is caving in. Just remember, you are not alone.
