My gratitude experiment (part 4)

Hello!

My name’s Emma (18) and I’m taking part in the Being Grateful experiment. The idea is to spend a few minutes every day for a week to think about what you’re grateful for and see the difference that can make. This is the fourth post of a short series on what being grateful means to me.

So here goes!

Monday

I am grateful of other people’s generosity

Every week for the past year I’ve spent one day volunteering in a charity shop in the town close to where I live. And like everything there are good days and bad, ones where we barely sell anything to days where we’re rushed off our feet. Today was one of those good days. We sold lots, almost constantly running out with new stock and refilling the window. We sold an expensive painting we’d had for awhile and everything just seemed in a good mood, my boss even brought in chocolate for us to share. One of things I’ve found working in the shop is how good people can be, the ones that give you all their change because they want the charity to have it, the ones who buy that bit extra and the ones that tell fantastic stories. Today a retired gentleman told me that if he still ran his shop that he would have loved to employ me. Having been to the funeral the day before to see people be so kind and happy was just what I needed.

I am grateful for a night out

In the village where I live we had a pub where me and my friend sometimes go on the weekend. We’re not ones for getting drunk and stumbling home, we just like an odd drink and to chat. It was nice to just get out and to talk about films, music and the future.

I am grateful for Youtubers

I know I was talking about them already but I do love them. To put so much time and effort into the content they make is just amazing. Monday is my usual YouTube catching up day so I spend a few hours watching my favourite people doing silly things and I always end up laughing. I’m so grateful for what they do and the laughs they give me.

Reflection: How do you take time in your day to practice being grateful? It's five minutes of your day that can make you smile. Try it even on your worst days, there’ll be something.
