My name’s Emma (18) and I’m taking part in the
Being Grateful experiment. The idea is to spend a few minutes every day for a week to think about what you’re grateful for and see the difference that can make. This is the second post of a short series on what being grateful means to me. So here goes!
I am grateful to be part of something
I started my day by watching a Youtuber called Markiplier celebrating 8million subscribers and it honestly it brought me to tears. It made me realise that even though you’re just one person that you can make a real difference! I maybe one of Mark’s now 11million subscribers, I maybe bought one copy of my favourite bands album, I maybe bought one one ticket to their Wembley but that makes a difference. I’ve helped Mark get to where he is, I’ve got All TIme Low to have a number one and I’ve been to their sold out Wembley show. I am grateful that I get to be part of something amazing even if I am just one, one can make all the difference in the world.
I am grateful for our car radio
We had a family funeral to go to and it was down in London so we had a three and a half hour drive ahead of us. Now we’ve done this many times so we know how boring it could be, just staring at the traffic as you go racing past. Recently we got a radio back in our car after having one break and to fill the car with music, a mix of classics like Queen and Bon Jovi, my mum’s favourites like Rick Astley and my sisters and myself’s taste of modern pop (with a bit of Disney thrown in) made the whole thing feel like one big sing along. Even though the reason for our trip wasn’t exactly a happy one the trip itself was a fun one.
I am grateful for my dog
After a day of travel and running about it was nice to just sit down and have someone’s head arrive in my lap. I’m sure that dogs must have a sense for when you need a cuddle and just come up to you. Bella spend the whole three hour drive asleep on my lap, not even waking during our terrible singing and then preceded to spend the rest of the evening sat beside me. I’m always grateful for her cuddles.

Reflection: How do you take time in your day to practice being grateful? It's five minutes of your day that can make you smile. Try it even on your worst days, there’ll be something.
